"Uncle Jim" is James Smith. He was married to Gus' (Anna Marie's Dad) sister Anna. Their eldest son is Lawrence, who is married to Irene Harding. In 1942, Lawrence is 34 and Irene is 30. At this time, they are parents to 8 year old Anna Mae and 6 year old George.

The 8th grade graduation ceremony for Hanson County was held in Alexandria and honored 65 graduates from 11 townships and 3 parochial schools. Alta Jean & Dora also graduated this day from St Mary's School. Anna Marie attended St Peter's School from First to Third Grade and switched to Spring Lake Township School #4 once the new building was completed.
